New Rail Corridor Preserved for Riverlea
The South Australian Government has announced it will preserve a new 33km mass transit rail corridor connecting Adelaide’s existing metropolitan rail network at Dry Creek through Waterloo Corner and Riverlea, extending to Two Wells.
This is a significant milestone for Riverlea, as the proposed corridor runs directly through our community and formally recognises Riverlea in long term transport planning for Greater Adelaide’s north.
What this means for Riverlea residents
Land has now been protected for potential future rail infrastructure as our region continues to grow.
Northern Adelaide is already the fastest growing area in the state and is expected to account for around 40 percent of Greater Adelaide’s population growth over the next 30 years. Growth across the corridor is projected to deliver approximately 113,000 new homes and support an additional 250,000 people
As Riverlea continues to grow, securing this corridor preserves the opportunity for coordinated public transport, including a potential future train connection to Adelaide’s metropolitan rail network.
What happens next?
Next steps will focus on refining the corridor and exploring future infrastructure options and costs. We will continue to keep you updated as planning progresses.
A Connected Community
The rail corridor announcement adds to the existing public transport bus routes into Riverlea made possible by a partnership between Walker and the State Government. Walker invested over $3 million to extend existing northern bus routes into Riverlea to ensure our residents are connected to Virginia and trains into the city, via Salisbury.
