South Australia’s Largest Vacuum Pump Station Now Live at Riverlea

Riverlea has officially marked a major infrastructure milestone with the launch of the brand-new SA Water pump station on Gericke Court — the largest vacuum sewer pump station of its kind in Australia.

Unlike most suburbs, Riverlea’s flat terrain and high groundwater levels mean we can’t use traditional gravity-fed sewer systems. Digging too deep or too close to the water table isn’t practical or sustainable. That’s why Walker built a state-of-the-art vacuum sewer system, creating — a smart, environmentally-friendly solution designed to move wastewater efficiently from homes to the pump station.

This system might work differently behind the scenes, but for residents, it functions just like any other sewer connection. The vacuum network quickly and cleanly transports wastewater from homes to the new station, which then pumps it into the wider SA Water network.

Walker made a significant investment to fast-track the delivery of this critical piece of infrastructure, — helping to bring nearly 2,000 homes online sooner and support the momentum of our growing community. Following its completion, we have now handed the station over to SA Water for ongoing management.

As another big step forward for Riverlea, this innovative infrastructure will support generations to come.
