Billions Injected into Economy with SA’s Largest Masterplanned Community

Adelaide’s fast-growing North West corridor received a major boost today with construction officially underway on Riverlea, South Australia’s largest masterplanned community.

Walker Corporation is injecting over $3 billion into South Australia’s infrastructure pipeline as the State drives ahead with its post-COVID economic recovery.

Walker Corporation Executive Chairman Lang Walker said Riverlea will create 10,000 jobs, building over 12,000 homes for 30,000 residents.

“Riverlea is one of the largest and most exciting residential projects to be launched in Australian history as we create a vibrant, thriving community for generations of families,” Mr Walker said.

“South Australia is the home of the original house and land package, giving people the chance to grab a slice of that great Australian dream and this is going to be the State’s best masterplanned community yet.

“Riverlea will boast quality homes amongst beautiful parklands, lakes and open spaces and cater for everyone from singles to young families and empty-nesters.

“We have a real focus on nurturing communities as they grow and Riverlea will have four new schools catering from kindergarten to year 12.”

Minister for Planning and Local Government Vickie Chapman says this project represents a generational investment in our state’s future.

“This presents a great opportunity for Adelaide, generating jobs for tradespeople, local businesses, and the broader construction industry,” Minister Chapman said.

“It signifies confidence in the South Australian market with the masterplanned community to become home to 30,000 people,” she said.

Just 35 minutes’ drive from the Adelaide CBD and 40 minutes’ drive to the world-famous Barossa Valley, Riverlea will feature beautiful bike paths and walking trails around 50 hectares of lakes, 420 hectares of open space and parkland. Riverlea residents will also enjoy the best in modern amenities including four retail shopping precincts.

The response from South Australia’s local builders has been overwhelming with 13 of South Australia’s top builders partnering with Walker to create affordable house and land packages for residents.

Lots range in size from 300 square metres to 1,000 square metres with a house and land package starting from just $309,000.

Business Development Manager of Sterling Homes Andrew White said he’s excited to partner with Walker Corporation on this landmark project.

“Riverlea provides Adelaide’s North West region with a refreshing and vibrant new masterplanned development, offering an idyllic location for those looking to build in the area,” Mr White said.

Riverlea Sales Consultant Tim Martin from John Martin Real Estate said with record low interest rates, the response from buyers has already been very encouraging.

“We are expecting continued strong sales, especially as early buyers can take advantage of the Federal Government’s Homebuilder program and State Government incentives,” said Mr Martin.

“Riverlea is perfect for buyers of all walks of life to live in a relaxed community with a very affordable investment, offering great value for money.”

Major works on the project have already commenced, including the construction of the Port Wakefield Road intersection, Riverlea Boulevard, the first precinct residential stages and extensive landscaping works. Settlements are anticipated to occur in the third quarter 2021.

Walker Corporation will use leading-edge engineering, technology and ecologically sustainable development practices employed on its many other residential projects around Australia over the last 50 years, including Mt Barker in Adelaide, Rhodes in Sydney and Hope Island in Queensland.

Riverlea’s business district centre will feature a major regional shopping centre, with bulky goods retailers, major brand supermarkets, grocery and specialty stores. Four other retail neighbourhood centres will be established in the residential areas.

The district centre will also feature a business hub with commercial office spaces, restaurants, bars and cafes, as well as emergency services and infrastructure.

Riverlea’s Sales and Information Centre will be located on the corner of Bonnin Crescent and Riverlea Boulevard and an extensive Display Home Village featuring 32 homes created by South Australia’s best home builders is expected to be opened in January 2022.
